Cleaning your Windows

Windows are made of glass and can stain easily. Debris lands on windows. Streaks often form on windows as well. Stained, streaky windows are unappealing. Dirty windows can also degrade window quality. While it may seem like a small detail, windows can make or break a home. Your windows should undoubtedly be stylish along with matching the decor of your home. Still, without maintenance and proper care; the value of your windows will be affected. Keep reading for tips on how to clean your windows.

Clean During the Right Weather Conditions

Warm days may seem perfect for cleaning your windows. However, this is not true. Hot temperatures often dry windows quickly. Why does this matter? The sun will prevent you from wiping off your windows. Streaks then form. It is best to clean your windows on a cloudless, sunless day.

Also, make sure that it’s dry outside. Rain and snow can also leave streaks. Wet, rainy, or snowy days can cause sickness as well. Being soaked on a rainy day isn’t fun. Shivering on a snowy day isn’t fun either.

Remove Dirt and Dust

Windows can attract dirt and dust. Make sure that you broom dirt and dust before cleaning. Vacuuming with a dusting attachment is also another option. Your windows will look muddy without this process. Take your windows out if they need extra maintenance. Then, use a hot, soapy solution to scrub them.

A duster or wet cloth can be used to remove dust from blinds. You can wet each slat with a rag. Then, use a dry rag to remove moisture.

Research the material of your curtains. Some curtains are safe to throw in the washer. Putting curtains in the dryer on an air-only cycle won’t hurt them. Just make sure to hang your curtains after fifteen minutes. Otherwise, wrinkles occur.

Clean with the Correct Cleaner

Spray away! Don’t be afraid to spray until your heart’s content. Dirty windows need a lot of maintenance.  Make sure to pick a cleaner with a fine nozzle. Nozzles that are wider can leave marks and residue.

Use Distilled Water and Vinegar

Distilled water is purer than tap. Most types of water clean counter-tops. Imperfections easily show up on the glass. Chemicals in your water cause windows to streak. Distilled water isn’t expensive. Most local grocery stores sell distilled water.
