3 Exterior Maintenance Tips For The Summer

Follow these simple exterior maintenance tips.

Every homeowner has a list of home improvement projects they want to start, but never seem to have the time to execute.  Summer is the perfect time to finally finish some of the projects because you won’t have to worry about inclement weather getting in your way.  If you go around the exterior of your home now and provide some well-needed maintenance, then it is less work you will have to do during the fall and winter.  Luckily, there are a few simple exterior maintenance tips you can follow this summer.

Check Your Roof

A major element of summer exterior maintenance is inspecting various parts of your home, especially your roof.  During the spring, your roof takes a beating from heavy rain and high-speed winds. So, during the summer, you want to inspect your roof to the what kind of condition it is in.  You want to check for loose or damaged shingles and any type of mold and mildew. It is best that you check inside your attic for any hidden water damage that couldn’t be seen from the outside.

Wash Your Windows

When it comes to taking care of your home during the summer, it is important to clean your windows thoroughly.  Your windows can get dirty during the spring due to pollen and mildew, so you want to wash all of the exterior windows.  Make sure you are cleaning your window screens as well since dirt builds up in them. All you have to do to clean your windows is use a bucket of soapy water and a scrubbing brush.

Don’t Forget Your Siding

One of the most important elements of any home’s exterior is siding, so you want to care for it well during the year.  Summer is the perfect time to invest in a power washer to clean your siding thoroughly. If you have a vinyl siding, you might have mildew on your siding, so you want to make sure to scrub with mild soap and water.
